Yeah, we pretty much were the only sports club around.

Yeah.

You know, and people just used to go there and play and have a good time and, you know, do their thing.

Not for…

Because I'd go through and I'd play, you know, and I'd be good, you know, in the clubs and stuff like that.

And, you know, that was all good.

And I started – when I got a little bit older, I started making – well, I didn't actually make.

I got picked for trials, you know, for representative teams in Auckland and stuff like that.

And a lot of those ones I'd go to, but I wouldn't make the team.

You know, you play in all these trials and all that, and then they'd name the team and wouldn't get named.

And it was – you know, that went on for quite a few years.

And then one day –

You know, you're a little bit despondent about it.

You know, it's like, you know, and rugby, it wasn't a professional sport.

You know, it was like, you know, the All Blacks are there and, well, shit, that'll be awesome.

You know, that's, you know, I'd love to be up there.

But what am I going to do about it?

Nothing really.

I'll just, you know, I'll just keep trying and hope for the best.

When you don't make it, you're not selected in all these teams.
