I think the Murphy one makes a bit more sense to me than the Jason Dickinson one.
With Murphy, steady defenseman, that number is never going to hurt you.
He plays within himself.
He's reliable.
And he never really tries to get outside of the player that he is.
Like, he understands fully what his game is.
Dickinson, I have a bit more concern with that term.
I think that term is going to end up being pretty damaging.
You have to remember, it's not long ago that Jason Dickinson was traded with a second-round pick, right?
just to get off of his contract from the Vancouver Canucks.
He looked to me like a guy that really slowed down over the last couple years.
I don't think I would have been comfortable with five years.
I know everyone has the saying, let's figure out the first few years and then we can work on whatever problems we have later.
I think that, to me, that term was just a few years too long.

That would be a nice benefit for sure.
And you're right.
It seems like from a depth perspective that the best teams that we've seen in the league that go the farthest tend to have some of the most depth.
It's not just having superstars and maybe Carolina is a nice lesson for everyone.
