And I always feel that that's really interesting then after the fact, because your own observations, when I'm taking a note during a trial,

I'll always be very mindful of how an accused person looks in the dock or how a witness behaves in the box.

Now, again, in the moment, when you're talking about this day to day, you couldn't possibly give that level of detail because that could be seen as prejudicial.

But after the fact, it's always very interesting.

I find one case in particular that springs to mind when I make this point, the Mr. Moonlight murder trial, the one down in Tipperary where Patrick Quark was accused of and ultimately convicted of murdering a love rival, Bobby Mr. Moonlight.

Is that still hold the record of the longest?

It doesn't.

I think it is since, but at the time it was certainly the longest running criminal trial in the history of the state.

I think it's since been passed out.

But that was a case that you're embedded in it day in, day out.

You know, there was a huge level of interest in it.

And with that huge level of interest then comes a huge level of a greater level of responsibility to get things right.

Because in those bigger trials, there are lawyers that will be closely watching the media coverage of the case to make sure that we don't put a step out of place and that if we do, it's brought to the judge's attention.

So there's always that added element.

I suppose it's better to have that in your mind, even if it isn't the case.

Yeah, it is.

I would always go into a case assuming that what I'm about to say on air is going to be on the front page of a newspaper.

And that's a good way of looking at it.

I remember covering that Belfast rape trial and getting towards the end of the trial, getting the lift up to the fourth floor in Belfast Crown Court, where the court was sitting every day,

And I won't name him now, but one of the accused men's barristers was in the lift with me that day.
