Those victims are not forgotten about because their crimes haven't been solved yet.
And hopefully one day they will.
But the most tragic thing would be for their stories to be forgotten and for their memories to just fade away through the kernels of time.
The first season was different of Inside the Crime.
That was a resolved case in the sense that Sharon Whelan's killer and the man who killed her two daughters down in Kilkenny was held responsible, convicted and deserving a life sentence, a man called Brian Hennessy.
But again, when you talk about the greater good, what appealed to me about that story was the family were very upset that this man had taken three lives.
He had murdered Sharon Whelan on Christmas Eve down in Kilkenny many years ago now.
And then having realized what he had done, he set the house on fire, knowing that her two daughters were asleep in their beds waiting for Santa to come overnight.
A really harrowing, tragic story.
He took three lives and he was handed one life sentence.
Now, he was initially handed multiple life sentences, but that was overturned on appeal.
And it was one life sentence because clearly he has only one life to give.
So what season one focused on was mandatory sentencing, because in this country, when somebody commits a heinous crime like that, the punishment is mandatory.
It's a life sentence.
On average, a life will spend maybe 20 years, a little bit more, maybe behind bars.
But for Sharon Whelan's family, and I sat across the kitchen table down in Wyangap, a beautiful part of the country, down in Wyangap County, Kilkenny, which interestingly is also where Patricia O'Connor was from.
And I sat across their kitchen table from them having a cup of tea.
And they were devastated by what happened.
Obviously, it'll never leave them.
