I had to rebuild through walking, gradually, patiently, and consistently.
I've also had to adjust and restart during grief, illness, medical treatment, fatigue, changing schedules, and difficult seasons of life.
What I learned is this.
You do not rebuild your health with one heroic workout.
You rebuild it by making the next healthy action easier to repeat.
Now let's begin with the first R. The first step is to reframe what happened.
Now, most people turn a temporary interruption into a permanent identity.
They miss several workouts and say, I quit.
But missing walks and quitting are not the same thing.
Missing a walk is an event.
Quitting, that's a decision.
And even when you feel as though you quit, you can make a new decision today.
Instead of saying, I failed again, say this.
My routine was interrupted and today I'm restarting.
That sentence matters because the language you use shapes the action you believe is available to you.
I failed sounds final.
My routine was interrupted sounds fixable.
And here's another important truth here.
The walking you already completed, that still counts.
Your previous walks were not erased.
