I remember that strange buzzing feeling after exertion.
I remember being constantly hungry.
I remember gaining weight around my abdomen, what I called my spare tire, being frustrated because I had always been fit before this.
I remember disrupted sleep, waking up at 3 a.m.
and not being able to get back to sleep.
Ray Davies of The Kink wrote this great song called The Voodoo Walk, and that's what I felt like when I was walking around my house at 3 a.m.
I remember the fog, all right?
The brain fog comes on, and you just couldn't concentrate on anything.
Now, this is the phrase that kept coming back to me, and I mentioned it before, the fog of war, because that's what it felt like.
And the fog of war does not mean weakness.
It means confusion.
It means too much is happening at once.
Your body's changing, your treatment calendar is moving, your emotions are shifting, and your identity is being challenged.
Your routines are being disrupted, and the fog of war makes concentration harder because your mind is trying to process fear, fatigue, treatment decisions, physical changes, and uncertainty all at once, leaving less mental energy for focus, clarity, and follow-through.
And even if you're a strong man, even if you're disciplined, even if you're a kind of man who's always handled things yourself, man, ADT can humble you.
It humbled me.
Now let me say this clearly.
ADT did not challenge my testosterone.
It challenged my whole identity.
And that is why men need more than just medical information.
