But the reason why I think it's a tactical error is if they're going to go ahead and make the hire on Babcock, there's only one other team left in the coaching market right now, and that's the Toronto Maple Leafs.

You know Mike Babcock isn't going back there.

So you're the only team left with an opening.

You might as well wait and figure out what happens with Bruce Cassidy for certain one way or the other.

before pulling the trigger on Mike Babcock because he's going to be there two days from now, two weeks from now, two months from now.

You're the only team that could or would hire Mike Babcock.

So what I would say is we don't know enough yet, but a couple things stand out.

One, um, obviously there was some mental manipulation here that no one is happy with in, in 2026.

We're talking about a period of time in which he's had some time to think about this, and I'm certain you'd be getting a pretty squeaky clean Mike Babcock.

So with obviously the absence of charges or anything like that, it'd be really difficult to see the league presenting a pass unless the NHLPA steps up and tries to contest it.
