And we like arguments.
And the reason was they could build a better product.
So he was very open to having a lot of clash of ideas.
And the case in point we use is that that led to the creation of the iPhone.
There was a strong disagreement on what it should look like and what its features should be.
And he let that disagreement continue and continue, and it built a great product.
Another example is humility.
That's one of the things I think all of us, I try to work on and we all need to work on, I think, is to bring that to the argument.
If you come in saying, I know I'm right, and it doesn't matter what you say, and I'm just listening long enough to refute what you're saying, you're not really going to get anywhere.
But if you can be open to the idea that there might be something that your adversary has to say or your opponent,
has to say, then that could be valuable.
And then I'd say finally, one of the things is that none of us do enough is listen.
And we've got a quote from Larry King.
He said, I've learned everything in my life from listening, not from talking.
And listening to what someone has to say before you respond is also something that's very important to promoting civility.
We've got one chapter on just basically we've been through these.
You get a family dinner.
It's Thanksgiving, whatever.

And the next thing you know, everybody's arguing.
