Governor, it's so good to see you.
I'm glad to be back here, and I'll take that honor as your second repeat guest.
I appreciate it.
This is important and urgent.
You know, look, I have had conversations with people all across Michigan for these last seven and a half years as I've served alongside Governor Whitmer
But it was a conversation with a woman in northern Michigan, a town called Cadillac, that really got me thinking about the urgency of the race for Secretary of State of Michigan.
This is a person who I met at a restaurant.
I was there eating with some folks.
She came over to me and told me about what she was dealing with, the fact that everything in her life was expensive.
Her child care was too expensive for her daughter.
Her elder care was too expensive for her father.
She wasn't making enough money to make ends meet in her retail job.
But she said something that really, really hit me in the gut.
She said, Garland, I'm going to do all the right things.
I'm trying.
I'm active in my community.
But I'm worried that if Donald Trump wrecks voting the same way he raised prices, then we're screwed.
Because I'm doing all these things, but my vote is the way I ultimately use that tool, the tool of voting, to fix the systems that are failing me, to vote these prices down.
vote to get more child care and housing that's affordable.
But if I can't vote, I can't fix these systems that fail me.
