Just because Republicans have historic precedent to overcome does not mean that this election will necessarily be a slam dunk for Democrats.
Polling shows the Democratic Party brand is unpopular.
And there's been an ongoing ideological tug of war about what the party even stands for and what it wants beyond just beating Donald Trump.
And there are other challenges.
Democratic groups and super PACs are being broadly outraised and potentially outspent by Republican groups and super donors like Elon Musk.
There are those new maps in Republican-controlled states that have made formerly competitive House seats a lot more red.
And most of the big Senate battlegrounds this year are in states that traditionally favor Republicans.
