I'm going to have to go with Tommy Hawkins.

Yeah, I've always been really big on quality over quantity.

And I talk a lot about the basics and the fundamentals of the game.

And I think if you look at any great player that's been able to play at a high level over a long period of time, they just do the basics and the fundamentals well.

And I think you've got to train that in your players.

And I think that was one of Mark Thompson's real strengths.

When you first got to the football club,

He had implemented the right drills into training.

You knew exactly what you needed to do.

And for the people listening, you know, the fundamentals are skill execution, running patterns, knowing how to use your body around stoppages, all these things that, again, you look at the great players, they do them really well.

They might kick an amazing goal every now and then or take an amazing mark.

And so I think it's the way that you develop the players.

And the other thing that Mark Thompson was really good at as well is he understood that the work was done during the week, but come game day, we needed to make decisions for ourselves out on the field.

I think we play a very unique game where we've got 36 players out there at one time and things can change very quickly.

And so if players aren't able to make those decisions for themselves and coach themselves out there, then it makes the game very hard.

I think for any young team, you've just got to get the right coaches in that understand the game, they see the game well, and make sure that they're implementing the right drills into training.
