When you're there, I think it's a whole different thing than just seeing it in a movie or, you know, imagining it.

As a kid, how did you and your family live with the threat of tornadoes?
Did you do a lot of drills to prepare?
Did a lot of your friends and family have, like, storm shelters or anything at their home?
Yeah.
You haven't lived through a large tornado, but you've said you do remember a really bad storm when you were about 10 years old.
What can you tell us about it, including how you got through it?
We featured meteorologist Gary England in our series, and you interviewed him for your book.

Can you tell us a bit about Gary England and what meteorologists like him mean in a state like Oklahoma?
Gary England was able to put eyes and ears in the field as he tracked tornadoes.
KWTV had a helicopter and storm chasers.
Just generally, can you describe how the team would have tracked the storm's progression on May 20, 2013, and how England covered it when he realized it was aiming at Moore and the schools?
Once it became apparent where the tornado was headed, why weren't the schools dismissed and the kids sent home?
In our series, we depicted professional storm chasers like Val and Amy Castor.
But storm chasing has become a popular amateur activity as well.
How do Oklahomans feel about storm chasing hobbyists?
