I lived in an apartment with like five people and all of us would say, all of friends of us, we're all best friends.

Everything would be like, it was all like Jim Morrison.

Well, what would Jim do?

Now he'd take them all.

Oh, okay.

You know, what would Jim do?

So Jim would never quit.

Jim would never think about it.

He just would like, I was obsessed with Bukowski.

So all of his books were written from the perspective of failure and loss.

But all those poems spoke to me so deeply.

I could never use them in my songs because whenever I tried to be a storyteller, writer, like maybe they are really good in Nashville, I was just terrible.

I just couldn't.

I was so disingenuous.

It just was awful.

I once wrote a song called Johnny and Mary.

and it was that was the first and last of the of the story songs I wrote it just was a shocker but a good lesson in how to turn left so whenever I could never use what Bukowski wrote but

I just, I wanted to get to write lines that would, oh, that make you, make you, you know, just get you just like, oh my God, disarm you.

And, um, Ginsburg was the other end of it, which was much more my thing.

I could totally inherit that sort of crazy, chaotic, swirly thoughts that are just sort of pushed together.
