So I wasn't interested in that.

But it was just hearing what was possible.

I didn't think of success, I just thought, I was like, finally, you're doing something good.

That's it.

I thought you were doing something good.

And nothing really came of it until I did a TV show.

I did a Battle of the Bands, a TV show on Channel 4 in England.

And you send your demo in, and you get chosen, and we won.

So the winning thing was to go on the TV show and do a live performance like a video.

And that's what kickstarted my career, because then that came to a guy in America who looked like the video, but it was the TV performance of us.

And so that was the first time I was thinking something's happening.

And then that took its usual time.

But, you know, going to make a record with...

Clive Langer, who'd worked with some amazing people, Elvis Costello, Madness.

Those were signs that I was going to make the record.

And it was only when I came here and I went on tour for the first time, I played CBGB's in New York, which is now John Vervato's store, that the crowd, I went to get a sound check and all that.

It was just a club.

And when we came back, it was packed.

And I'd never experienced that.

And I couldn't get through, you know, it was like super cool biker dudes, tats and, you know, super hot girlfriends.
