Yeah, I think we both walked into it with a level of confidence that we had not earned in any way, but which we had nonetheless.
I mean, we had some moments along the way of
Oh my God, what are we doing?
But I don't think either one of us deep down felt like it wouldn't succeed.
You know, we had a lot of great models for other bookstores, but independent bookstores have been on the upswing since the pandemic.
And I mean, I think last year alone, something like 400 new independent bookstores opened across the country.
And I know we were very bullish on Bethesda.
And so we had a lot of confidence going in.
Right.
And I think also people are really appreciative of personal curation.
They like to know that when they walk into, especially an independent bookstore, that they're getting a personal point of view that's been very carefully chosen and kind of displayed for them.
So they enjoy that.
And we still get people walking in the store and thanking us for being there.
I think that they really appreciate a lot of the things that you just said, that experience of
walking in and browsing and being in a cheerful place filled with welcoming employees.
And it becomes almost a destination.
The bookstore is not just a conduit to a book, but the bookstore is the experience itself.
Yeah, I mean, it's funny that when you look at the square footage of the store, a huge, huge chunk of it is devoted to fiction.
And it makes sense because that's what Amy and I really like to read.
But we have, of course, a history section and a politics section and science and nature and health and everything.
