That doesn't mean 70% of the time we're saying go to your room.
That means that 70% of the time we're not stopping and dropping.
Our kids are allowed to feel really uncomfortable that they're leaving the park and we can still pick them up and say we're going.
You know, our kids are allowed to not like it that we turned off the TV and they're allowed to have their feelings, but I might keep cooking dinner while I have those.
I don't have to sit on the floor every single time.
That's the biggest thing I want parents to know.
In fact, that would not be good for kids and it's a recipe for absolute burnout for parents.
And it actually does the opposite.
In every single feeling, in the same way as you would have once dismissed every feeling, you're almost saying, I feel so uncomfortable that I've got to sit with you and make it better.
So it's actually like overdoing it is really hard too.
So what we're sort of trying to do is sort of
30% of the time is the stat, but it's not about going, is this in my 30?
It's about going, you know, maybe your kid says something and you do dismiss it and then they come back and then you kind of try a destruction or connection and then they come back and the behavior is escalating, not going down.
And you go, yeah.
Is my kid okay or not okay?
I think they're not okay.
And that's when we're going to sit with them.
And sometimes we're not going to catch that till a kid is standing on the table, looking us in the eye going, make me get down.
So we use some low level emotion and here they are.
And what they really need by then is often a boundary.
