But you're absolutely right.
I think it was a coincidence that this letter arrived around the time that we had arranged to see her.
I guess a chicken and egg thing.
She said straight away that she'd had this letter, she'd received this letter.
And it had impressed her or it had concerned her in some way, you know.
So, yeah, it was coincidence.
We didn't know about the letter beforehand.
These two children who were missing hadn't been searched for at that time, Pauline Reed and Keith Bennett.
They hadn't been searched for in the 1960s.
They hadn't been linked formally with the investigation in the 1960s.
And that was part of the review that I was tasked with doing before we started.
You know, were they involved in these two cases?
And clearly, you know, I mean, just obviously you haven't got cast iron proof at that stage, but the circumstances were such that it looked very, very much
There were similarities all the way through.
So we were satisfied that they were linked cases.
Really, it was at that stage that we said, right, we need to go and see her and see where we go.
And we fully expected to get nowhere.
And I've told you already that when we got there, we found she was amenable.
And she started out by saying, I'm prepared to show you areas of Saddleworth Mall, which is where all these kids were buried.
that were of interest to Ian Brady, or of relevance to Ian Brady, without saying, I know where the bodies are, but that was her way of saying, I'll point you in the right direction.
