See you there.
Alright, now back to Night Falls.
In Northern California, almost two miles above sea level, and in an area so remote that in the winter months it is all but inaccessible.
A tree has stood for over four thousand eight hundred years.
It is Methuselah, the oldest tree in the world.
One that has looked out on an unchanging view for century after century, new buds appearing each spring, green leaves fluttering in the summer breezes, cast off as russet red and sunshine yellow in the autumn, twisted and gnarled branches rising above the winter snows.
Imagine now you're heading to find Methuselah, hidden high up on the slopes of a mountain.
You're walking, and with each step your boots crunch into the snow.
Before you, the jagged grey rocks reach into a clear blue sky, rising above a perfect oval of turquoise lakes.
Snow covers the slopes.
The only sign of any other living creature, the tracks left by animals in the white.
But look over there.
On the western edge of the lake.
And a lone caribou picks his way carefully through the snow.
Antlers dark against a bright whiteness.
Each step brings him nearer to the lake, and finally he is there, leaning down to drink.
