That is a great point that it can go too far and it can be a massive turn off when you do push it over the edge.
So like with everything when it comes to flirting, come in really slow.
Just don't go full out and offend someone.
But look at perhaps starting slowly, starting softly, build it up.
And read their body language.
If they're sort of retaliating or they're enjoying it or they're having fun and laughing, not just that sort of polite sort of chuckle, smirk and hoping you'll walk away, but if they're enjoying it, then you can start to volley back the banter and go from there.

Yeah, that's a really good question and I think it's pretty useful to move away from these gender norms around what's acceptable when it comes to insulting or putting someone down because ultimately it's not useful for anyone.
