This is something that concerns me probably more than anything else, actually, seeing the rise in sexism and misogyny.
I've really noticed in my three and a half years as a politician, I've always received really awful gendered commentary, but recently it has gotten significantly worse.
And governments just have not done enough to address this, whether it be online, in the schoolyard, in workplaces.
I really see this growing misogyny and culture existing, particularly in young boys, as one of our biggest threats.
We know that teachers are leaving schools because of misogynistic behaviour from young boys, and those young boys are going to grow up
to be men with this attitude unchecked.
We have a minister for men and boys in Victoria now.
There's a new portfolio that's being created.
I really want to see that role dedicated to working to changing attitudes in young men.
But it's somewhat concerning to me just how used to this I've gotten.
It's not healthy.
It does really have a personal impact, particularly since I've become a mother.
And one thing I've learned is sexism and misogyny just takes different forms.
It used to be commentary about how I look, about my past, about my age.
Now it is about the way that I parent.
It's about my child.
And I have a daughter.
I didn't need to have a daughter to know that this is wrong, but it really makes me worried about the world and the future that she could have if we don't take really serious action to stamp this out.
And don't just expect women to take this on.
It's a massive burden when they enter politics.
