They might or might not be moving.

They might or might not be awake.

You know, their complexion looks, you know, what we would call big sick, you know, and that's who we'd focus the attention on.

But, you know, as services start to arrive, you know, our colleagues in the fire service have medical training as well.

And we'll start to fan out and, you know, make sure that every single person is checked out.

but also that they're all accounted for and that, you know, there's not somebody who has, you know, with the fright because you get that adrenaline fight or flight and some people do take flight and they may, with panic, start walking away from the scene and collapse in a ditch.

You know, so we have to take all that into consideration.

Yeah, so the adrenaline kicks in, people can get out of their car, they're not feeling all the little pains that they would normally feel.

And as you said, as that starts to wear off,

you might have somebody who might collapse on the side of the road, who might start to feel back or neck pain.

And now, you know, focus may have to shift towards them, you know.

So, yeah, it's a very dynamic scene, you know, who's, you know, looks and appears well right now, may not actually be the person who is well.

And, you know, you are coming back to them and we're constantly checking all the time to make sure people are OK.

It really has come on since I joined the service 21 years ago.

We had what we would call a rule where we had a load-and-go patient, which was your sick, sick person.

You got them out, you got them into the ambulance.

Gone to the hospital.

And we had our stay-and-play patient, which was the not-so-sick person that we could spend a little bit of time with the scene.

But, you know, those days are gone where we need to rush to a hospital for advanced care.

Now we're bringing the hospital to the roadside.
