Time passes and you look up, it's six months later, and you look up and realize you've done none of those things.
The raise came in, the money came in, the income increased, but somehow life found a way to just absorb it.
And I believe part of the reason this happens is because of our financial thermostat.
Think about the thermostat in your home.
You set it to a certain temperature.
When the house gets warmer than the temperature you set, the air conditioner kicks on and brings the temperature back down.
When it gets too cold, the heat kicks on and brings the temperature back up.
The entire system is designed to bring the temperature back to the setting it recognizes as normal.
Okay, I want you to hear me when I say this.
It's automatic.
You don't have to keep teetering with it.
You set it one time and then the thermostat is going to do the rest of the work.
So I believe we all have a financial thermostat, as I said, and we have a certain financial temperature that we're used to living at.
It may not be the temperature you want.
Right.
It may not even feel good, but it's familiar.
Maybe you're used to having about $4,000 in savings.
And whenever your savings get above that amount, something seems to happen.
There's a trip, there's a purchase, there's a reason that you need to use that money.
And before you know it, your savings is right back to about $4,000, right?
