It was a bit of a surprise, but I'm glad to be here.

Absolutely.

But thanks for the interest.

My generation was basically, you know, we're going to fight back.

There's a military force in our streets where we're going to fight back militarily.

And that's how I joined the IRA.

I was then arrested in 1973, actually in London, when I went over with an IRA unit.

And I was arrested and charged with conspiracy and ended up with two life sentences and 20 years sentence.

I mean, what people were living in at that stage was a mattress, just a sponge mattress, no cover on it, just a sponge mattress on the floor and a blanket and a pad to do your ablutions in that you used to see in old prisons.

And when they come in, it was generally they come in to beat you.

So what they started doing, because there was nowhere to put their excreta, their urine out there, is they started throwing it out the windows.

So they covered up the windows.

And then they started putting it out onto the door to get it out of the cell.

And when they couldn't do that, so they blocked the doors, they started then putting the excreta on the wall.

and to get rid of it.

They spread it on the wall.
