It was as straightforward as that, you know.
So...
The night before, I'm actually a very good sleeper.
There's very little that keeps me awake, but yeah.
And I woke up very early.
One of the things that happened, strange enough, because I had approached somebody to be part of the rear guard and he came in to me first thing in the morning.
So we open up at about seven o'clock in the morning and he came in and he said, Jerry, he says, I have something to tell you.
I says, okay, what is it?
He says, I don't think I can do what you asked me to do.
Now, this is in the morning of the escape, right?
I'm working out around two o'clock.
And so you have the thick in your feet, you know.
There was no part of me arguing with him.
And he gave me a reason which I understood.
He said, I'm not doing long enough, you know, and I don't want to end up with a life sentence.
And I says, fair enough.
What worried me was that there might be more.
And I says, that's okay.
Leave it with me.
