So think about anybody who's who's guilty of a murder, who gets offered a second degree murder charge with no prior record.
He probably would have served like three three to four years.
He would have been out in the early nineties.
And so think about anybody who is facing the death penalty to go to that and to turn that down, knowing you're guilty and knowing you're facing the chair.
It didn't make a lot of sense.
But he insisted he was innocent from the start and has never wavered from that.
And that's something I don't think any of us can really understand because it's easy to say those platitudes, but he was willing to live that.
Um he said it's easier for me to stay in prison and do the time than it is to admit to something I did not do.
He said, and this is the thing that really got me.
And when I first heard it, I kinda didn't really understand it.
But then when I got to know him, I really understood.
He said this would dishonor the memory of Michelle.
She wouldn't want me to take a guilty plea on this.
Like I'm innocent.
And she would know that.
And that's how his mind worked.
He's just like, I this will dishonor her memory and I'm not gonna do that to her.
And and he's always said, I stand for justice for my dead wife.
That's what motivates me because at some point he felt like I don't really care so much about me.
I care about the larger concept of justice and my wife's memory.
