Because that's what nature is.

Nature does not have a hierarchy of life.

That's us.

That's our brains.

That's our cerebral cortex.

That's our meaning making.

And that's everything that's wrong in our world is because we think that there are hierarchies.

There are no hierarchies of life.

So to actually be able to survive is to embody that, not as a theory, not as an ideology, not as like, oh, this is something I'll try, but to have the courage to completely die.

For me, it was dying to myself and my idea of myself and my ego plans, my sense of wanting to achieve anything and to become part of that web of life.

Now I know that's what I was doing when I went out there.

But when I first heard the call to go out on a loan, I just knew I had to do it.

I think that there's this thing with humans where the reason we do something is never the reason we did it.

That's just the story we tell ourselves to get ourselves there.

But the reason we actually do a thing, whether it's a job or a relationship or going to a school or making a plan or building a house, whatever it is, over the weeks and months and years and decades, when we look back, we can say, oh, no, no, no, no, that's why I did it.

And so for me, the stories that I took into Alone, I want to be the first woman to win.

I want to be this.

I want to be able to test my skills, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Really, what was calling me was the wisdom that I had as a six-year-old.

The wisdom that I had as a 10-year-old, the part of me that used to run into the center of a storm, the part of me that used to rescue birds, the part of me that used to sing to clouds, that part of me that I got born with, that part coming full circle and saying, gee, it's time to remember who you really are.
