And this is how much I never wanted to run for office.
So before...
I got married, I made my husband promise to never run for office because he had been working for a senator in law school.
And so we'd like to talk about it.
But I said, like, no, like, just make this promise.
And so he did.
So that's how much I didn't want to be part of
That's right.
So anyway, I ran and I won.
And it was part of this grassroots effort in the community to save our schools.
And we did.
We flipped the school board and none of the schools were closed.
And there and I loved being on the school board.
I recommend it to people who want to serve and who have an interest.
And we all in the education of our kids.
But there I understood that the reason why our schools have threatened foreclosure is because the state, under Greg Abbott's leadership, takes our money and then doesn't put it back into our community needs.
And the school issue demonstrates better, I think, than almost any other issue how that is working.
I ran for the Texas House one, and this was almost 10 years ago.
So this is my fifth term in the Texas House.
And I've mostly focused on public schools, though when you are a House member, you have to know about everything, right?
