And that one sentence that is in the back of the book is handwritten because all I want them to know is that, you know, you'll do great things in your life, but how you do them could matter as much as what you do.
And that's what good power was, the how you do it, right, is as important as what you do.
And that was the crux of it.
Yeah, look, this was this was the hardest thing because I would arguably run IBM during the time.
Many people listening probably don't even know what IBM did or does in that I would run it during its most tumultuous time of change because it had been tremendously successful in an other era.
Hardware, software.
But the world had changed.
It was big cloud companies.
It was social media.
It was Facebook.
It was Google.
Amazon had already been around 10, 15 years.
And so all those forces were there at once.
And I really felt I was its bridge from its past to its future, that that was my role, to be its bridge, to transition.
And to transition from that meant I would have to
really embrace those tensions, love tension.
And so when you say, what did I have to know what to change and what should endure?
Because it is easy to change everything.
And I kind of started there and that was a mistake.
You have to know what should endure.
