JPMorgan Chase Institute says tariffs paid by midsize U.S.
firms tripled last year.
Researchers used payments data to look at businesses that might lack the pricing power of large multinational companies to offset tariffs, but may be small enough to quickly change supply chains to minimize exposure.
The analysis also suggests the administration's goal of reducing reliance on Chinese manufacturers has been occurring.
Deere, the maker of heavy machinery and agricultural equipment, says its profit was dragged down by tariffs and weaker demand in recent months, but it sees signs of recovery for its farm and construction businesses this year.

Uber is expanding their rideshare services.
Uber Technologies is investing more than $100 million to develop autonomous vehicle charging hubs.
It's Uber's latest push to scale up its self-driving service.
The move includes the depots where Uber runs day-to-day operations and at pit stops throughout priority cities.
The charging expansion will start in California's Bay Area and Los Angeles, also in Dallas before expanding.
Uber has partnered with Google's Waymo in the U.S., China's WeRide to offer robo-taxis on its ride app.
It's also working on self-driving freight and delivery.

There's a sign that inflation is cooling.
Price increases moderated in January.
The consumer price index rose just two-tenths of a percent for the month and 2.4 percent on an annual basis.
The numbers showed improvement and were below economists' predictions.
Core CPI, excluding food and energy, rose three-tenths of a percent in January, and for the year it was up 2.5 percent.
Inflation measured by the CPI peaked at 9.1% in June of 2022, which was the highest reading in nearly 41 years.
