There's a sign that inflation is cooling.
Price increases moderated in January.
The consumer price index rose just two-tenths of a percent for the month and 2.4 percent on an annual basis.
The numbers showed improvement and were below economists' predictions.
Core CPI, excluding food and energy, rose three-tenths of a percent in January, and for the year it was up 2.5 percent.
Inflation measured by the CPI peaked at 9.1% in June of 2022, which was the highest reading in nearly 41 years.
The improvements in the report are especially encouraging since January readings are often skewed by companies raising prices at the start of the year following the holiday season.
