Economists were predicting 60,000.

The unemployment rate improved, declining to 4.4%.

The forecast was for 4.5%.

And there were revisions to recent reports.

The November unemployment rate has been changed to 4.5%, not as weak as first reported.

However, October and November job growth was revised down by 76,000.

This is the first monthly report to be released on time since the August numbers came out in early September before the government shutdown.
