So there you have it.
Let's now talk about inflation, interest rates and all that.
I'll throw one question up and then we'll do another two and then we can kind of talk about all three.
Okay.
Why did the government cut fuel excise when they know it would fuel inflation?
COVID-101, spending money we don't have.
And then there are two questions here, one from Caitlin, one from Kate.
Inflation, what trigger should be pulled in place of the standard rate rise?
And then Kate asks, and this is probably a part B to this, if Australia were to hit stagflation, how do we get out of it?
Would it be more effective?
What would be a more effective control lever for the RBA or the government?
So let's talk about this fuel excise, governments spending money
Inflation, I don't know if you want to talk conceptually around inflation and how that works.
And if the government puts more money into the economy and people have more money to spend, that potentially is a problem.
But that's similar to the let's subsidise people's energy bill where we're reducing it.
That's a backdoor way to help the inflation figure.
It's true, but it's hard to- My kind of thing is even like with, and we might even get to it, like with house prices, sure, you're in a capital city.
I don't have $2 million to buy a house.
If that house price fell by 20% overnight, I still can't afford it.
It's the same as fuel.
