I think it's important to look at how your nest egg is performing from year to year.
And if we're going through some tough years, I think it's important to adjust your withdrawals to account for that.
Obviously, we've gone through a dozen years where the market has performed really nicely.
And maybe during those years, you were able to take a little bit more from your savings.
But if we enter a long downturn, I think it's important to adjust accordingly.
An annuity at its simplest is an effort on your part to get guaranteed income for life.
Again, at its simplest, you're going to hand over an amount of money to an insurance company, and then that insurance company in turn will send you a check every month for the rest of your life.
And annuities are getting more popular within retirement plans because people are worried about this.
They're worried about having that steady income return.
for the rest of their lives.
And they're worried that their nest eggs alone or that they don't have the skills alone to make sure their nest egg lasts as long as it needs to.
Well, I'm a big believer in trying to delay Social Security as long as possible.
I think the numbers are pretty staggering.
I think about 40 percent of Americans grab Social Security as early as possible at age 62 in most cases.
And that's understandable.
People want to get that monthly benefit.
They want to enjoy the money while they think they're still young.
But, you know, we really have to remember that you might need Social Security benefits
And you might need your retirement savings much longer than you think.
And there's some very worrisome estimates out there that only about half of Americans will be able to maintain their lifestyle in retirement.
