And so and this is really killing Kentucky bourbon, you know, and things like that.
But no, not only does it play well in Canada, but it also plays well internationally and Canadians as people who have always been sort of the junior partner in North America.
you know, love to be validated by outside people.
And I think that's also part of Carney's personal story.
Not only was he governor of the Bank of England, you know, he went to Harvard and then he went to Oxford and all of that stuff plays well with sort of middle-class Canadian parents.
But, you know, so the idea that Canada could be an international leader has been one which is sort of
we'd hoped for throughout our history.
I mean, Wilfred Laurier described the 20th century as Canada's century.
I'm not so sure it was, but, you know, we've always wanted to exploit our extremely good reputation.
People have a really favorable view of Canada and to try and, you know,
get more stuff for ourselves.
I'd like to say do good in the world, but I think in the end, we'd like to use this to leverage the kind of connections he's trying to make.
Yeah, and of a particularly populist, illiberal, by his own lights, democracy or competitive authoritarianism, if you follow it closely, where Orbán dominated the society, gave jobs and funneled cash to his friends.
Yeah.
gerrymandered the map for elections, controlled both state and private media, you know, really set up an authoritarian system in the heart of Europe.
And so what Magyar is doing amounts to practically transitional justice.
He's moved very, very quickly to try and dismantle the Orban machine, to get rid of people like Tomáš Šuljuk, as you said, the president who was installed by Orban, and just purge them from
ministries, from state companies, from especially the national broadcaster, which he described as a factory of lies when he had a very confrontational appearance on it, saying he had not been on it since 2024.
His rise was incredibly quick, and he's moving very quickly now.
And he has a constitutional, he has a supermajority in the parliament, which means he can change the constitution, which is how Orban set up his system, often ruling by decree, and it's how Magyar is tearing it down.
