How have we got to this point and why do we want to be like that as a society, especially in a society which values children the way Irish society does?
But generally in work-life balance, I think it's really important that politicians get a chance to unwind because they're pressured to always be on.
And this includes sleep.
A number of politicians make almost a sort of virtue of the fact that they never sleep.
Margaret Thatcher, Donald Trump, Winston Churchill during World War Two, you know, Bill Clinton.
All of these are famous for not taking a lot of sleep.
Margaret Thatcher didn't nap either and so she was frequently seen as sort of confused or very, very tired at various points and it's speculated that some of her poor decisions were under the influence of lack of sleep.
Donald Trump –
has been taken to napping in public, which is, I think, the very opposite of the tough guy image, which this I don't need to sleep image has.
But when you see politicians literally working 18 hours a day, that can't be good for either decision making or for them and for their long term survival in a tough, tough job.
Yeah, I think that's good.
I mean, I do admire many of our politicians for doing this and for also for keeping their private lives private and not sort of using them to build political capital.
I've never been more impressed with Michal Martin than his dignified and measured and touching work.

I have constantly been amazed by his trips down to West Cork where he rides his bike and actually lives like a normal person and gets that chance to relax in a beautiful place.
Similarly, I'm always amazed by Pascal Donoghue taking a bit of time out of his busy job as an Irish Times book reviewer to occasionally be minister for finance.
So it can be done.
I mean it's a relatively recent phenomenon, podcasting, right?

The technology's not really there for you to have sort of an online radio show you build yourself.
