I remember the very first time I ate there, they put the oysters and pearls down in front of me, and I started laughing.
When they gave the description, and I was eating with my father, it was right before I was about to start,
And he goes, why are you laughing?
You know, we're in this fine dining restaurant, right?
And I go, oysters and pearls, man.
That's hilarious.
Yeah, yeah.
And it's delicious.
Yeah.
And that was the first time that I was like, oh, this should be fun.
This should be emotional.
This should be cool.
And so that really resonated with me.
But Thomas's integrity, his willingness to not compromise,
It was unprecedented.
The fact that he was there, the first one and the last one out, I was there at the right time to find that role model.
That really set the tone for my whole life.
I give him a lot of credit for my ability to push through cancer.
Sure, I learned so much to be a chef, but a lot of life lessons.
