And again, my perspective is always a bit flawed because tens of millions of people are watching at home.
I think in the ballpark, the rapid-fire pitches with a clock is better because it's more home runs.
I think the brilliance and the beauty of the home run derby, when I think about Josh Hamilton or Bobby Abreu or some of the guys that have put on really epic shows, is A, the number of home runs, but B, the quickness with which they're hitting them.
So I'd almost think about maybe a hybrid where you do the clock in the early rounds, but then the finals is a number of swings because it's almost like what we talk about with the pitch clock.
I think it was actually, incidentally, Kyle Schwarber who said, I heard him talking at Media Day, and he was asked, like, what's the one change of a rule you'd make to Major League Baseball?
And I think he said, well, the pitch clock works and he likes it.
Like, maybe not having that in the postseason because it brings back the intensity and the drama of the stare down and no clock and –
just the buildup of these massive pitches.
Maybe we could have both, right?
Maybe it's the clock early, and then in the finals it swings so you get the dramaticness and the buildup of what Walker did last night.
I would be okay with that, too.
I don't know why you couldn't have a hybrid.
We do that with some of the challenge rules and some of the nuances of other things where we don't do courtesy runners until extras.
There's been some talk, by the way, that maybe the ninth inning, or excuse me, the tenth inning, the first extra inning, there is no courtesy runner.
But then we start that in the 11th or the 12th.
So if they're willing to get creative and kind of alter and tweak some things by ending it soundly,
Like a lot, it sounds a little arcadey, but when you see it implemented, I think most of these things have actually been successful.
A lot of the things that people bristle at or are really upset about, by and large, have been very popular within Major League Baseball fandom.
Well, it's unbelievable what they've done.
They're one of the great stories in the sport in the first half.
