Like 19, 20.
This is the University of Ottawa.
Anyway, that consumed my life.
It was the great, I have no idea what I was doing.
Nobody knew what they were doing.
It was called the Canadian Review, and it was a political literary magazine.
It had a very healthy circulation, but it did nothing but lose money, and it failed.
We eventually sold it to our closest competitor, and I came to an editing program in New York City, and from there it led to a job at Time magazine in 1978.
Yes, I had a lot of girlfriends.
I was okay with the ladies.
And it's funny, I thought you were going to ask me like a rosebud question.
And then I was in the car on the way up here.
I thought, okay, I taught canoeing at summer camp every year.
And that's one of my few skills is I'm really good in a canoe.
And you got earned chevrons from the Canadian Canoeing Society, whatever it was, to go on your paddle.
And I had these two beautiful paddles, one for the stern and one for the bow.
And I brought them to New York as sort of decoration for my apartment, which was slim on appointments.
They were sitting in the corner.
I got into a fight with an early girlfriend in New York, and she grabbed one of them and smashed it over my head.
