Back in 2007, we were forming the Idaho Innocence Project, and word got out that we were looking for cases.
And Chris Tapp was one of the first people to write to us and was one of the first two cases that we took.
At first, when he wrote to us,
You know, he explained his case.
We looked into it and there was DNA that was used at his trial.
So a jury already saw DNA evidence and that excluded him and they still convicted him.
And so it was a really hard case.
Chris, what was my initial impression?
We became really besties after he got out.
But meeting someone in prison is always a stilted, terrible situation.
Right.
Chris was not too hopeful that we could do anything for him.
I think this new organization also, you know, it was kind of a stilted but warm meeting when I went to see him in prison.
Then he, you know, he'd call and we'd talk.
Oh, it was hard.
He was thrown into prison, a very innocent kind of a guy.
