I think what shocked me was how emotional mum became upon realising that she was kind of a bit trapped in this.
Like I think something set off for her that it wasn't quite right but also she was leaning into wanting to believe.
You know, there's something emotional that goes on for us when we're believing something and I think
It's worth watching because I think for me it was a bit instructive about how vulnerable we all are to this.
Like statistically, the more you think you are able to spot a fake, the less likely you are to spot one.
So basically we all have, like broadly speaking, we've got about a 50-50 chance of spotting a fake.
So we filmed with the researchers that have been looking into this and we filmed with a bunch of Australians, you know, to see what they're like at spotting real and fake.
And those statistics are borne out.
It's basically 50-50.
statistically, the people that think they have greater awareness, literacy, are more sort of digitally literate, are less likely to spot the fakes.
To be honest, I can't tell you the reasons why that is.
I suspect it's to do with...
maybe overthinking it, but, um, but that's what the statistics show.
And that's certainly the, the, the group that we had, uh, you know, the younger ones that were like, I know how to spot a fake.
They were like really quite, quite blown away.
And yeah, it certainly is what happened with mum who obviously went in quite, you know,
She knows who I am.
She knows who I am better than pretty much anyone.
And, you know, I think by the end of that whole interaction, she was just kind of like really quite thrown and emotional by the whole, because of the whole experience.
