In part, because he was so good in Miami, you know, for me, if I'm just talking about this, like, you know, I love balls and talk about this from a basketball fan perspective.
He was maybe at his prime in Miami.
And a lot of things facilitated that, you know, like he had a better supporting cast so he could be better on both ends of the floor, all these things.
But to come back to Cleveland, and a Cleveland team that was reformatted.
It wasn't like era one LeBron Cleveland where he was taking some guys to the finals that maybe, you know, this is a better Cleveland team.
And so had he come back and not been able to get over the top and win a championship with that team, I think there would still be a lot of pain and perhaps some bitterness.
But I do think
The Cavs have that championship banner in the arena.
They have not won one since.
And so for the time being, he is still kind of this mythological figure due to that alone.
yeah you know i think it's interesting because in some ways lebron and i have uh we're on a similar timeline just a linear timeline and so in a lot of ways he always seemed to me like he was so far ahead of every one of my peers even if they were doing the same thing that he was doing and my arc of witnessing him has always been through this mode of almost uh
wonder and sympathy.
Sympathy not like, oh, look at the poor, rich, multi-billionaire athlete, but sympathy in that you don't get to fully be a child in a way.
You don't get to fully be the, you know, he was seen as like a grown man at 14.
And he was also carrying the responsibilities of an entire ecosystem, entire city, an entire sports ecosystem at 18, 17, 18.
And so there's a way that I think you
can miss out on a youth, a linear timeline that better suits whatever pleasures you might want to dive into that aren't the thing that people think you're there to save them from.
And I think he's handled that really admirably.
To have been in the spotlight for this long and to be relatively sane, at least publicly relatively sane, is a real achievement.
And so I think that's usually the lens that I consider him through.
