And yet another page of the survey asks them how many days they drank in the last week and there only 9% of boys and 4% of girls said they had drunk on any day at all.
And I've traced the origin of this mighty statistical claim all the way back to a BBC radio interview with Sean Hitchens, a Canadian comedian and the organiser of the Ginger Pride March.
Now, Sean admitted to me that he just got a bit confused during the interview and got his words muddled up.

Well we don't really.
It's estimated that about 10% of the UK are redheads and the proportion in Scotland could be a little bit higher than that.

Now, most estimates put the number of redheads at somewhere between 1% and 2% of the total world population.
So that would be between 70 and 140 million.
Yeah, and that's still a respectable amount.
Northern European nations do have a greater proportion of redheads than anywhere else in the world.
