I'm currently in Wheeler, Texas, riding the Great Plains gravel route.
It's 3,500 miles, 5,600 kilometers from Mexico to Canada through the Great Plains states.
We'll be going through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
This is a new route that was published last year by Bike Packing Routes.
So we're some of the first people to be doing it.
I'm averaging about a hundred miles a day with my friend Rob.
He's retired and pretty much rides like this all day, every day, but this kind of volume is new to me.
This is my first time bikepacking more than three days and
Two of my friends are also along uh filming.
Dylan owns his own media company and Jacob is a biologist who's offering some really great perspective about the ecology of the places that we're riding through.
Um I'm recording this memo from the morning of day twelve.
And so far the trip seems to be defined by misadventures.
Even on the drive down, uh I didn't l load my bike properly and uh it got dragged at eighty miles an hour, destroying my shifter paddle and um shaving down the drops uh on my bars and uh
We ended up finding like one little bike shop that was c closed on Mother's Day.
It was owned by a firefighter who ended up driving his truck
to his bike shop to fix me up.
Um it's a pretty funny way to start the whole thing.
Then uh though we're in the Great Plains, which is more like grasslands, um
We started out in the Charwan Desert.
Um, down in Presidio, Texas and it was a hundred degree heat for the first three days.
