This is my biggest criticism.
So if you look at NATO's founding documents, it is an alliance.
It's a mutual defence alliance.
It's also an alliance that
One of its founding principles is to defend democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
The problem now is those principles are being put aside for pragmatism and real policy.
So again, I mean, going back to, forgive me, going back to Turkey, it's obviously the country that I know best.
This is a country which has fully descended into autocracy, 100%.
Democracy is dead in this country, right?
If you're a politician, an opposition politician who's getting a little bit too popular, you're banged in prison.
If you're a journalist who speaks out against Erdogan and his government, you're banged in prison, okay?
There is no space for democracy, freedom of speech, anything in Turkey, and yet...
because of the strength of Turkey's defence industry, because of the size of his military, and because Erdogan's managed to sort of position himself as this guy who can talk to everyone, you know, he can talk to Putin, he can talk to Hamas, he can blah, blah, blah.
Now everybody's coming and worshipping at the altar of Erdogan within NATO.
And for me, that's problematic.
Like, I get it.
Like, you have to sort of,
have a certain amount of realpolitik when you're dealing with global security, right?
And the fact is the biggest threat to Europe at the moment is Vladimir Putin's Russia.
There's no doubt about that.
