It's just a real storm of symptoms and that's when you can become so insular because people will start to disbelieve you.
We're very used to hearing somebody fall ill with a particular symptom and then that improves and then they're okay again.
Absolutely.
I really have and continue to straddle both worlds.
I think I started feeling sick with gut symptoms in my early 20s, when I was about 20.
And, you know, gut symptoms are awful.
IBS is awful.
And when you are navigating the world at 20 and you're very –
invested in seeming normal and attractive you know worrying that you need to be near a bathroom or being bloated all the time is really a horrible feeling and that was before the gut craze I feel now we've got this hot girls have IBS meme culture around it which is great but
But back then it was really isolating.
And so I would start looking at different treatments.
Nobody ever really knew how to treat it.
I'd went through all of the normal paths of the colonoscopies.
There was nothing really dark going on.
But because I also had struggled with mental health,
And I have OCD.
There's that real mind-gut connection, which is so strong in my life.
And so I'd get into what my current osteopath will now call a sympathetic storm, where it's just this kind of explosion of symptoms that comes on during periods of stress and
and they kind of egg each other on, the worse the mental stuff, the worse the physical stuff.
And so I was looking at so many different things to treat that.
