But I kind of saw I had a choice.
I could either get very brittle and stay in this very dark, sad place, or I could let the grief kind of move through me, crack me open.
And it's almost like when I had...
my children I didn't know if I would have the capacity you know to hold them and to love them deeply deeply you know it's frightening becoming a parent but your heart expands you know and so I think that's sort of what's happened in my grief as well my heart has expanded and I kind of want it to I don't I don't want to shut myself down to what might be next.
Well, I kind of learned that I didn't have to just blurt it all out.
In the early days, I sort of carried it like this open wound.
So I didn't have my guard up.
And if someone started talking about Matt or...
I just kind of blurt it out.
I can remember a really terrible situation, which I still feel really bad about.
It was, I think it was only two weeks after Matt had died, and I decided that it would be a really good idea.
You can see I wasn't in my right mind.
I thought it would be a really good idea to take the kids back to their swimming lessons because I didn't want them to be afraid of water, which I think was way too soon, obviously.
So I was sort of in this like, okay, we'll just keep following the routine.
And I sat on the edge of this swimming pool and someone that I had worked with came and saw me and said, oh, hi, Hannah, how's your winter holiday been?
And I think he said, you look really tired.
And I just said, oh, it's not been so good, actually.
Matt died.
And I could see his face.
You know, he was crestfallen.
