You know, I didn't know how to navigate that situation.
There's no right answer to that, what you say.
And if I pretended, that would have been even more weird had he then gone home and heard about Matt's accident.
But what I learned was, you know, if I went and got my hair cut at the hairdressers and they were like, how are you doing?
I didn't have to tell them if I didn't want to.
The people that needed to know knew.
And if I felt okay in that moment, sometimes I would say.
But I also learned that sometimes I could hold back and I didn't have to kind of just release my baggage into the world.
But it was a learning curve because...
As I said earlier, there was still this kind of weird shame attached with what had happened to us.
And it was also so fragile in those early days.
You're still grappling with, so in a way it's like... You're sort of managing everyone else's feelings as well as your own and trying to work out what's appropriate behaviour from me, but also how to manage this sort of bombshell that you could potentially drop on someone at any moment.
It was really hard because I honestly didn't know what I wanted to do next.
I mean, all I wanted to do was go back in time and live the life that I'd been living.
I mean, that's the weird thing with grief and time is that you kind of want to not be in the present, but you don't want to be in the future either because you know that's scary and unknowable.
So you just want to live in the past and you can't get back there.
