So...

We had a really sort of brief but lovely morning together, went our separate ways.

And then around lunchtime, my phone started ringing and I was wrestling with my novel, not having a particularly good time with it and looked down and didn't recognise the phone number.

So I ignored it to begin with, but it kept ringing.

And I thought, you know, that mother guilt kicks in and you think, oh, it could be the kids.

I need to get that back.

So I answered it and it was my husband's PA who I'd never actually spoken to before.

She was relatively new to the company.

And she said that a Bondi detective had called the office trying to get hold of Matt's home address.

And she couldn't get hold of Matt.

So she was calling me because she didn't want to give out the information without Matt's consent.

And so we had this sort of slightly baffled conversation where we were saying, well, what could this be about?

This is really odd.

And I put down the phone and I just had this feeling of I need to go home.

I don't know what's happening right now, but I need to get home.

So I packed everything up and I walked up the hill back to our little inner west cottage and as I was going I phoned our childminder who had the kids at the house and I said strange question but has anyone come to the house and she said yes there are two police detectives here.

And so I knew, I knew something had happened, but I didn't know what.

And I kind of ran the rest of the way home.

I pulled out my keys and as I put my key to the door, I just, I kind of knew that as I was going to step through the threshold of that space, something bad was waiting for me.

But I had to go in because my kids were inside.
