And so it was going to be on the news.
So they were urging me to contact people to tell them before they saw it on the news.
So I was in this really precarious position of having to think, who do I need to tell?
And what am I going to tell them?
Because, as I just explained, my brain was not catching up with reality.
And so I had to, I think I made five phone calls with the help of the police.
And I had to say the words out loud, Matt's dead.
And it was just horrific because it felt like everything was suddenly going into fast forward.
But I was still wanting to be on the other side of where it's like the knife falls and your life separates.
And I didn't want to be on that side of it.
I wanted to be back where everything was normal and safe.
Yeah, I think it's the hardest thing I've ever done is being their mother and knowing that I had to tell them something that would break their hearts and then hold them through that experience.
It was probably the worst day of my life telling them that, but...
I decided not to tell them that evening and it just I needed the evening to process it myself to try and find the words to try and work out how on earth to tell them and I wanted them to have one night where they could go to bed feeling that the family was still intact and everything was okay and
And I don't, I mean, they must have been aware of the police in the house.
And I remember my son going up to bed that night saying, Mommy, why are you crying?
And so they must have, you know, kids, even really young kids, they understand.
But they didn't ask me.
And so...
We had that one night and then I woke up in the morning.
