I felt this horrible sense of wrongness to our life suddenly that, you know, I felt like we've been doing everything right, trying to live really good lives, working hard, trying to be good parents, loving each other.
And suddenly we're on this new trajectory that we hadn't asked for.
And so I felt a strange shame to suddenly have the label of widow.
You know, I was 39 and I felt so different from everyone around me, from my friends and, you know, all of our social group.
And I was a single parent suddenly.
And I think there's a horrendous social stigma that we attach to the idea of single parenting.
And I think, you know, single parents are heroes doing really hard work.
But I was suddenly ticking those boxes on form saying, yes, I'm a single parent.
Yes, I'm a widow.
Who's our emergency contact?
I don't know anymore.
It was really tricky.
So my family was split across the UK and I had my dad and my sister in Melbourne.
But Matt and I had set up our home in Sydney and it had been home for quite a few years when this happened.
And fortunately, we had a really great group of friends around us.
I made great friends through my mother's group when I had my son.
Yeah, I know.
I was very lucky, actually.
The women that I met were a wonderful bunch, like really supportive.
And so, you know, they kind of swept in and really did help us.
